• 3 DAY INTENSIVE TRAINING with Doctor Dan (Hands on with Dr. Dan in his SHOP in Boise, ID – using the equipment, distressing tools, learning the “tricks of the trade” regarding application of coatings and the use of dye stains and glazes
• Learning the “TONING PROCESS” (how to change the color of wood using dye stain using door samples from 1) raw wood 2) pre-finished doors)
• Learning how to mix and make enough toner for various size jobs
• Learning how to glaze the doors just toned above
• Learning how to prep the wood (especially on oak where you must bridge the deep grain before painting or toning!).
• Learning how to make paints and stains (any color) quickly
• Finish (and Refinish) lots of samples – both painted and toned – learning various finishing techniques: glazing (three types of glazing techniques), antiquing and distressing, painted rub-throughs, use of crackle lacquer, hand glazing, ragged on glaze, hand glaze streaks, fly specking.
• Learning how use (and make) the antique and distressing tools; worm hole maker and the awl (or ice pick for cracks), Chisel (hewning), chain(ing) (for antiquing and texture) – all hands on –  learning to create old world finishes quickly and easily.
• Quick run through on how to tape and prep the job; practice taping up a cabinet – FAST! (using our proven tricks of the trade when taping up the kitchen (to make it easier and much faster) with no finish getting behind the tape when you’re done  – or almost none!).
• Why and how to NEVER waste time stripping kitchen cabinets again (well maybe once in awhile)!
• Knowing which equipment to buy and why (Dr. Dan’s only recommendation to finish like the high-end pros and to make the big bucks – separating yourself from “the average finisher” so that there’s no competition!)
• Assistance after the program in finding/purchasing the equipment at the best price
• Using the equipment – hands on
• Spraying techniques(so you don’t get bounce lines when spraying toner especially)
• Assisting you in what and where to purchase supplies (hint, much of it not at the retail Sherwin Williams), and what supplies you will need and how they are used
• How to mix the supplies
• Learning some miscellaneous tools of the trade: RED scotch-brite pads (for antiquing process), the best sander, sanding sheets, special sanding paper for repairs, DEFT for repairs, about the various sheens (flat, satin, semi-gloss, gloss (or 5 Degree, 10 Degree, 25 Degree, etc.), how to deal with high humidity, blush and what to buy when the cabinets have blushed (wood is holding moisture and looking milky)
• Learning how to make touch-up for the job (including the use of epoxy, fill sticks, etc).
• Learning color mixing and matching techniques and training
• Learning how to make glazes
• Learning how to deal with wax on older pre-finished kitchens
• Learn how to present yourself – materials, marketing, use of samples, importance of confidence and how they’ll know if you’re the pro or not.
